Clearly in a jealous rage and terrified about what it might reveal about him, president Donald Trump has been freaking out about former FBI Director James Comey and his highly anticipated book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership.” As Comey has a tell-all interview coming up and snippets of it are already making a splash, Trump has taken to Twitter to smear Comey and try to frame the respected former FBI chief as a liar. Earlier today, Trump tweeted:
“Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe. In other words, he was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job. Slimeball!”
That was just one of many anti-Comey tweets Trump sent out this morning, and already it is backfiring on him. One example that has Trump’s heart breaking is an interview that aired on Meet the Press today, in which retiring Speaker of the House Paul Ryan refused to join Trump in trashing Comey. When host Chuck Todd asked Ryan if he thought Comey was a “man of integrity”, Ryan stated that he believed so, regardless of what the president says. Ryan said:
“As far as I know.”
Ryan stated that although he had only had “two or three briefings” with Comey, he seemed to be trustworthy, however he didn’t want to “sell some books” for Comey by talking him up too much. Perhaps Ryan is also worried about what Comey might reveal about Trump and the GOP.
Also in the interview, Ryan told Todd that he didn’t think Trump would fire Mueller, and doesn’t think it’s necessary to pass a bill to protect the Special Counsel. You can watch a clip of the interview below:
Once again, this shows top Republicans are splitting from Trump and refusing to play along with his infantile games.
